Organizations

Membership applicationIt's not easy keeping up with fast moving technology. The latest and greatest ideas aren't in books. They come from people actively involved in research, both in industry and educational institutions. Professional organizations are where the most advanced ideas are discussed in their journals, on their web sites, and at their conferences.

If you want to keep up with the latest and greatest, then get connected to the organizations that hold conferences and/or publish journals on computer performance management.

The Institute for Electronic and Electrical Engineers (IEEE)

The IEEE includes engineers in many different specialties. The Computer Society is for computing professionals. The society holds an International Symposium on Performance Analysis of Systems and Software.

Association for Computing Machinery (ACM)

The Association for Computing Machinery is for computer science educators and professionals. Its special interest group SIGMETRICS is for performance management specialists. It holds an annual SIGMETRICS conference.

The ACM's home page is at http://www.acm.org.

Computer Measurement Group (CMG)

The Computer Measurement Group is focused on various aspects of computer performance. In general, it tends to be less theoretical and more practical than other organizations. The CMG holds a conference every year in December.
